NHRC team led by hon’ble Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque and Member Nurun Naher Osmani along with UNDP representatives visited to Kutupalong & Balukhali Rohingya refugee camp, Cox’s Bazar on 10th September 2017. The team met with the refugees and listened to their sufferings and urges. The team also talked to the local administration and INGOs & NGOs working there for humanitarian help.
In a press conference, terming the atrocities by Myanmar government & Myanmar Army against the Rohingyas as genocide, hon’ble Chairman said, “The killing, arson, torture and rape is unprecedented. International community needs to create pressure on Myanmar to stop this genocide. Our recommend to the government to handle the crisis diplomatically and if it does not work this genocide will be needed to be tried at international court". He also said stronger action was needed from the international community, including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. He also called on China and India to play a larger role in mitigating the crisis.
Earlier on 7th September 2017, NHRC held meeting with CSOs, media and all members of the Commission to discuss the way forward to deal with the crisis.
