Myanmar Military Officials should be brought to Justice- NHRCB Chairman

Newly joined UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Mia Seppo, made a courtesy call with honourable Chairman of National Human Rights Commission Kazi Rezaul Hoque. They discussed on various human rights issues of Bangladesh including women & children rights, religious & ethnic minority rights. Ms. Mia expressed her satisfaction on the role played by NHRCB since the beginning of its journey on 2 August 2017. The Chairman appraised the UNRC about the initiatives so far taken on promotion & protection of human rights.

During meeting hon’ble Chairman briefed UNRC that since 25 August 2017 more than 6,00,000 Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh because of the persecution by Myanmar army. Ms. Mia also raised her concern on the recent human rights violation of the Rohingya people in Myanmar & acknowledged the role of Bangladesh for providing humanitarian support to Rohingys. Kazi Reazul Hoque requested her to upheld support to Bangladesh to solve the crisis by creating pressure on Myanmar government to take back the Rohingyas. Kazi Reazul Hoque said, “Myanmar military officials who are responsible for the atrocities should be brought to justice.”

Ms. Mia also assured hon’ble Chairman that she will extend all support from her end to the Commission regarding the issue. She also emphasized on NHRC’s significant role in protecting and promoting human rights of Rohingya and all vulnerable people in Bangladesh
