Dr. Meghna Guhathakurta graduated in International Relations and did her Ph. D on Politics of British Aid to Bangladesh from the Department of Politics at the University of York, UK. Her teaching career spanned 22 years at the University of Dhaka taking courses on Development, Research Methodology, Gender and South Asian politics in the Department of International Relations where she took voluntary retirement as Professor in 2006.
She is currently Executive Director of Research Initiatives, Bangladesh; a research organization that specializes in Participatory Action Research especially among the marginalized and socially excluded communities. These communities include Dalits, indigenous people, refugees and displaced people and women. Participatory Action Research or Gonogobeshona as it is called in Bangla, works through stimulating people’s own collective praxis. She has published extensively on gender, family histories and indigenous and minority rights in the context of Bangladesh in particular and also in the regional context.
She is also working as an Advisor of the International CHT Commission and an Associate Editor of The Journal of Social Studies.
