Ms. Nurun Naher Osmani is a retired Senior District and Sessions’ Judge. After obtaining LLB and LLM from the University of Dhaka, she joined the Judicial Service of Bangladesh in 1983. After serving as Assistant Judge, Senior Assistant Judge, Sub Judge (at present Joint District and Sessions’ Judge) and Additional District and Sessions’ Judge in different districts of Bangladesh, she was promoted to the position of District and Sessions’ Judge in 2001. she served in that position in Dhaka (Member, Court of Settlement, 2001-2002), Tangail (Special Judge, 2002-2004), Bagerhat (2004-2008) and Pabna (2008-2012). Being a Senior District and Sessions’ Judge she served as Member of the Labor Appellate Tribunal from 2012 until her retirement in 2015.
As the Member of the Labor Appellate Tribunal she attended the “Regional Conference and Training Course for Judges and Arbitrators – Asia and Pacific Region” held in Melbourne, Australia in 2012 organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO). In 2013 she attended “Asia Pacific Regional Conference of the International Women Judges’ Association” held in Auckland, New Zealand. she also attended different national and international conferences and training courses in Bangladesh.
Ms. Osmani also served as the President of Bangladesh Women Judges’ Association (BWJA) for three (3) terms from 2013 to 2015. After retirement from the Judicial Service she has served as a Resource Person on labor law at Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI). At present she is serving as the Vice-President of the Brahmanbaria District Association and the Organizing Secretary of the Retired Judges’ Welfare Association.
